The Opportunity:
Caraway is looking for an Engineering Program Manager in Asia to lead the expansion of our kitchen and homeware lines, serving as the liaison between Asia-based factories and our headquarters in NYC. The Engineering Program Manager will be responsible for managing and enacting improvements to existing product lines as well as developing new product line initiatives, establishing new factory relationships, and sourcing new suppliers to execute on the design vision of Caraway. You will manage a current team of 2 (Quality Engineer and Technical Engineering Project Manager) and look to further expand the Asia team’s resources and capabilities. In close collaboration with the US team and factory partners, you will work to bring new concepts to life with innovative techniques, materials, and an uncompromising focus on the highest quality, cost, and aesthetic outcomes.
Who You Are:
An established leader in the kitchen and homeware space with at least 7 years of experience in product development. Additional expertise in metals, sustainable plastics, glass, wood, electronics, and other materials is helpful as we continue to develop sustainable options.
You are detail-oriented, a quick learner, and comfortable with many different types of responsibilities. You are an expert project manager and communicator allowing you to easily flow information between multiple stakeholders (US team, Asia PD team, external factory partners, design agencies, packaging vendors, and more).
You are comfortable working independently to define tasks and prioritize workflows for you and your team with the larger milestones and objectives in mind. Your analytical, data-driven approach allows you to translate complex challenges into actionable plans forward.
Travel, sometimes on short notice, to address factory and production related challenges as well as identify potential sources early in the product development lifecycle will be a part of this role.
Program Leadership & Execution
- Lead supplier-driven NPI programs from concept through sustaining, ensuring readiness across tooling, builds, testing, and ramp.
- Drive day-to-day engineering build activities on-site at factories to meet Caraway’s program objectives.
- Support U.S.-led projects by executing locally with suppliers, escalating issues to internal and external stakeholders, and tracking deliverables.
- Own specific portions of the schedule including tooling, builds, validation, compliance, and quality operations.
- Develop and manage program plans (scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risks), ensuring alignment between Caraway internal teams and supplier partners.
- Support sustaining manufacturing initiatives such as packaging optimization, quality improvements, and cost reductions
- Solve technical issues or pull in external resources to ensure project remains on track
Supplier & Factory Engagement
- Build strong working relationships with factory partners; develop detailed knowledge of supplier capabilities, processes, and constraints.
- Represent Caraway operations with supplier and product design teams to ensure Design-for-Excellence (DFX), manufacturability, supply chain, and testing requirements are met.
- Ensure line readiness for all NPI builds — including line space, layout, fixtures, equipment, staffing, and training.
- Travel frequently across factory locations to drive issue resolution, monitor readiness, and support build/ramp activities (50–70% travel expected)
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the key liaison between Caraway’s Product Development, Engineering (ME/EE/FW), Operations, Quality, and Marketing teams and our Asia suppliers.
- Facilitate structured, clear communication across U.S. and Asia stakeholders, synthesizing complex issues into actionable updates.
- Lead cross-functional Asia-based program teams (Planning, SQE, Tooling, Supply Chain, etc.) to execute against program milestones.
- Ensure efficient handover of programs into mass production with optimized yield and stable processes.
Risk & Issue Management
- Identify risks across technical execution, quality, and schedule — develop mitigation and contingency plans.
- Resolve critical path issues quickly, escalating when necessary to maintain program momentum.
- Maintain accountability for both internal and external partners to deliver against commitments.
Soft Skills & Leadership Traits
- Leadership under ambiguity – Able to step into unclear situations, take ownership, and create clarity for the team.
- Influence without authority – Skilled at driving accountability across supplier partners and cross-functional teams without direct reporting lines.
- Sense of urgency – Inspires urgency and accountability in global teams to meet milestones in fast-paced environments.
- Strategic + tactical balance – Thinks strategically about long-term execution while driving day-to-day program details.
- Excellent communicator – Synthesizes complex technical and operational issues into clear, concise updates for all levels, from factory engineers to Caraway executives.
- Cultural bridge – Works effectively across time zones, cultures, and functions to align U.S. and Asia-based teams.
- Resilient problem solver – Remains calm and resourceful under pressure, finding solutions in dynamic, changing environments.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Willing to travel for several days at a time and able to work independently, establishing priorities as necessary
