The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Front End Developer to join Caraway Home’s engineering team. This role will report directly to the Lead Full-Stack Developer and collaborate closely with the team to deliver bespoke e-commerce experiences. You will be responsible for building high-quality, scalable, and performant front-end solutions, working with our design and product teams to develop interactive UI components, features, and animations that create a seamless shopping experience.
In this role, you will participate in all aspects of the development lifecycle, including strategy, development, testing, and code review, ensuring that our front-end architecture is both scalable and follows best practices.
Who You Are:
You are a passionate front-end developer with a deep appreciation for pixel-perfect design, smooth animations, and performance-driven UI. You thrive on writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code, leveraging modern front-end frameworks. Your experience in developing customer-facing web applications enables you to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and uphold high-quality standards in everything you build.
You are communicative and collaborative, thriving in cross-functional environments where you work alongside designers, product managers, and engineers. You follow best practices for writing DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself), modular, and reusable code, and you follow modern development standards to ensure scalability and maintainability.
Beyond just writing code, you are a relentless problem solver, stepping up when challenges arise and proactively identifying ways to improve the user experience and front-end architecture. You enjoy bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, making complex concepts accessible. You’re highly motivated, enjoy collaboration, and are excited about front-end development, always eager to explore new technologies and refine your craft.
Responsibilities:
Front End Development
- Develop and maintain front-end components, features, and UI interactions using React, Next.js, and StyleX.
- Collaborate with back-end engineers to integrate APIs and ensure seamless data flow.
User Experience + Design Collaboration
- Implement CSS animations, transitions, and micro-interactions to create engaging user experiences.
- Ex. Parallax scrolling effect, tooltip or popover animations, card flip animations, interactive data visualizations, accordion menu with smooth transitions
- Work closely with designers to bring pixel-perfect UI designs to life while maintaining responsiveness across devices.
Performance Optimization
- Ensure high performance and cross-browser compatibility through rigorous testing and debugging.
- Optimize and improve front-end performance, addressing bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
Continuous Learning + Best Practices
- Stay up to date with modern front-end best practices, frameworks, and performance optimization techniques.
- Contribute to front-end best practices, ensuring code maintainability and scalability.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- 5+ years of front-end development experience.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, Next.js, TypeScript, and modern CSS (StyleX preferred).
- Deep understanding of CSS animations, transitions, and responsive design.
- Experience working with headless CMS platforms like Contentful.
- Familiarity with performance optimization techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, and efficient asset management.
- Strong debugging skills and ability to troubleshoot UI/UX issues effectively.
- Prior experience working on e-commerce or direct-to-consumer platforms is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate with design and product teams to refine and improve the user experience.
- Self-starter with a passion for learning, continuous improvement, and staying up to date with modern front-end technologies.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $138,000 - $160,000 - Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
